“Did you know before he was born?” And the answer isn’t simple — it never is. What follows is usually a conversation, and in the beginning, those conversations were painful. Because beneath the question, I often heard something else: that there was something wrong with Evan.
But in my world, Evan was perfect.
From the moment I met him, I saw his light, his resilience, his joy. I’m an optimist by nature — I see possibility before problems — but even so, I had to face a different kind of reality. Evan would need not just one, but two open heart surgeries. His path through school would look very different from his older brother’s, a gifted child who excelled in accelerated programs.
It was hard. It is hard. But so is raising any child.
There’s no handbook for parenting, especially when the journey veers off the expected path. There are days filled with fear, moments full of pride, and a thousand tiny choices in between. And if you're in that space — navigating uncertainty, advocating for your child, or just trying to catch your breath — I want you to know: you're not alone.
Would you let me walk with you through the hard parts?
Let’s talk about support, grace, and finding strength in the story that’s uniquely yours.
